Commandos Are Majors Tournament Champions

Irvine, CA - The Commandos edged past the Wrecking Crew in a 3-2 thriller in six innings to claim the Majors Division Tournament Championship at Hicks Canyon Field 2.

In the first inning, the Commandos and Wrecking Crew each scored two runs. Starting in the second inning, the defenses for both teams locked in and all the catchers played superb defense behind the plate. The Commandos and Wrecking Crew pitchers then engaged in an epic pitching duel that led to the low scoring game. 

Stone H. of the Commandos pitched six strong innings for a complete game against the Wrecking Crew. Stone H.’s 75 pitch gem included nine strikeouts, one walk and no earned runs. 

Devin F. and Tank C. combined to pitch six innings for the Wrecking Crew. Together, these two Wrecking Crew power pitchers struck out 10 Commandos batters, allowed three hits, two walks and gave up only one earned run in the entire game. 

On defense, in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ethan I. for the Commandos made a great pop fly catch in left field for a big out.  In the sixth inning, the Wrecking Crew defense led by Tank C. and Joshua B. turned a successful double play against the Commandos.

For the Wrecking Crew offense, Gabe T. and Liam L. both hit the ball hard to the outfield grass against tough Commandos pitching. Tank C. and Gabe T. scored for the Wrecking Crew. 

For the Commandos offense, Everett C. led the way with two powerful hits and two runs. Diego R. knocked in one hit to the centerfield grass and Cooper E. scored a crucial run. In the fourth inning, Jonathan D. knocked in the game deciding RBI, and the Commandos broke the tie. 

Both teams should be proud of the way they battled all game and all season. After the game, NWLL President Ted Hsieh presided over the majors tournament medal ceremony for both teams on the field with all the players’ families.
